ANXIETY

WHAT IS ANXIETY? â€‹

 Anxiety is feeling worried, tense or afraid. It is a natural response when we feel under threat, and everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life. For example feeling worried and anxious about sitting an exam. But it can become a mental health problem if the feelings of anxiety affect your daily life. This might have implications for generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), a long term disorder that causes you to feel anxious about a wide range of situations.

Anxiety is also the main symptom of several conditions such as panic disorder, phobias, PTSD, social anxiety disorder.

SYMPTOMS

- Feeling strongly anxious and worried for a long time.

- Worries are distressing and hard to control

- Feeling restless or unable to sit still having sleep problems, having panic attacks.

- Physical health problems becoming a factor

WHAT I CAN DO?

​

- Exercising regularly helps with reducing stress or pressure being applied to the mind

- Being able to talk to someone expressing how you may be feeling

- Looking after your physical health

 - Attempting to manage your worries

WHO CAN I SPEAK TO?

Talk to someone you trust or talk to someone on the helplines, managing your worry by setting aside a time to focus on your worries, or writing them down. Look after your physical health.
